The Ytterbium-doped Yttrium Aluminum Garnet crystal (Yb:Y3Al5O12, Yb:YAG) is one of the most promising solid laser working substances. Compared with the traditional Nd-doped system, it is more suitable for diode pumping. Compared with the commonly used Nd:YAG crystal, the Yb:YAG crystal has a wider absorption bandwidth, which can reduce the temperature management requirements in the use of diode lasers. It also has a longer laser upper energy level lifetime, and the thermal load per unit of pump power is 3-4 times lower. At 1030 nm, the Yb:YAG crystal can well replace the Nd:YAG crystal used at 1064 nm, and its second harmonic at 515 nm can replace the Ar ion laser (which is larger in size) emitting at a wavelength of 514 nm.
