Diffusion bonding refers to the process of first subjecting two crystals to a series of surface treatments, then pressing them tightly together to form an optical bond at room temperature. Subsequently, the crystals are heat - treated to achieve permanent bonding without the need for other adhesives. Experiments have shown that when undoped crystals are bonded to both ends of a doped crystal of the same matrix as end caps, the temperature rise at the end faces is very small, approaching the temperature of the coolant. This reduces the end - face distortion caused by the thermal lens effect and the thermally induced wavelength shift of the spectroscopic coating, which is beneficial for the stability of the laser and high - power laser operation. Therefore, this thermal bonding technology can not only significantly improve the thermal performance and beam quality of the laser in laser applications but also facilitate the integration of laser systems and the acquisition of large - sized crystals.
